Apprenticeships

We partner with many of the UK’s leading construction companies such as Kier, Balfour Beatty and Mott Macdonald to actively support the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programme to promote the industry at schools and colleges throughout the UK. Hitex International Group is also one of the few organisations in this sector to have its own STEM Ambassador.

We also play a major role in the National Highways Academy’s Highway Skills programme and recruit apprentices for all areas of the business including Hitex Traffic Safety, Somerford Equipment, and L&R Roadlines. Our apprenticeships give young people the skills they need to make a career in this industry and comprise structured, internationally recognised training programmes including work-based learning.

DEVELOPMENT CHEMIST – Hitex Traffic Safety

HOURS: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

As Development Chemist your duties would include:

  • QC and approval of raw materials/liaising with suppliers for an extensive product range
  • New product research and development
  • Driving continual quality and cost saving improvements
  • Handling technical queries/customer complaints internally and externally
  • Management of product approvals, trials and liaison with BBA/BSl/Overseas approval bodies
  • Control and development of technical/heath and safety documentation
  • Training of internal and external personnel to CPD level
  • Site visits/inspections/training for contracting staff and customers
  • Maintenance of approvals/documentation to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

Representing the company at Industry meetings the ideal candidate will need to be:

  • Enthusiastic and flexible to meet the needs of the business
  • Have a full driving licence
  • Be willing to travel/stay away from home, if required
  • Have good time management, organisational and motivational skills
  • Appreciate the need for good timekeeping/attendance within a small team
  • Have a methodical approach to work, following set procedures and appreciating the need to work safely in a clean laboratory environment
  • Be educated to degree or equivalent level with a background in Chemistry
  • Have working experience to suit the requirements of the role
  • Have a working knowledge of at least some of the product range listed above, particularly methacrylate based
  • Be computer literate, using programs such as Excel, Word, SAGE and Outlook

CREATIVE DESIGN TECHNICIAN / ADMINISTRATOR – Hitex Traffic Safety

We have and exciting opportunity for a Creative Design Technician / Administrator to join our expanding team at our offices in Ellesmere Port. The position is full time, working Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:00 with a one-hour lunch.

About the Role

Working primarily in our offices as part of a small team, your primary role will be to deliver technical drawings for our CNC Water Jet Cutter. Full training will be provided however the ideal candidate will need a creative background with some previous knowledge of CAD or vector graphics programs such as Adobe Illustrator.

The successful candidate will need to be confident in handling both telephone calls and visitors to the site in a professional manner and be able to work within the team to ensure drawings are correct and all orders are dispatched within the required timeframe.

This role is an excellent opportunity to develop a variety of skills by making a valuable contribution to a variety of key areas to the business.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Producing technical drawings for our CNC water cutter
  • Ensuring that design work is accurate, complete and thorough
  • Following up all orders to make sure orders are dispatched on time
  • A passion for customer service, answering incoming phone calls in a polite, business-like manner
  • Using creative skills to assist the marketing team including literature updates, developing social media strategies
  • General administrative duties including staying up-to-date on new products, services, and policies
  • Occasional travel may be necessary attending industry events

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will need to:

  • Have a passion for design and creative thinking
  • Demonstrable ability to problem solve and think creatively
  • Experience with CAD/Vector Graphics software
  • Be computer literate and show experience of MS Office software, Word, Excel etc.
  • Show a flexible outlook to working in other areas of the business
  • Possess excellent communication skills to deliver a high-end service to customers
  • Be enthusiastic to work effectively as part of a team
  • Have good time management skills
  • Knowledge of social media (Campaigns and performance)
  • Have a full driving license
  • Be willing to learn and take on advice and information

Role Details

  • Working Hours: 08:30 – 17:00 (1 hr lunch)
  • Holidays: 20 days plus bank holidays (Rising to 25 over 5-year period)
  • Salary: £16,000 – £19,000 depending on experience

Full, ongoing training will be provided as well as a company mobile phone to be included.
